Dubai to Launch First Robotic Biobank
In April, a part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, Al Jalila Foundation, reported its move to establish the first robotic biobank in the Emirates. It will launch this biobank with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and the Mohammed bin Rashid (MBR) University of Medicine and Health Sciences. The partnership between these bodies is to enhance medical research on target areas like genetic disorders and pandemics like Covid. It also includes cancer and some chronic diseases.
There exist over 120 biobanks in the world presently. Further, these range from small to large depending on purpose and ownership. The facility in Dubai is expected to have the breadth to hold and manage up to 7 million biospecimens.
